Easily Plant Your Own Wheatgrass Seeds at Home & Indoors without Soil

Wheatgrass is full of essential nutrients and vitamins to keep your mind and body feeling its best.  Many people in the health community, including myself, tend to take a “shot” of wheatgrass as a morning ritual to get their day started. I used to purchase wheatgrass in the stores, but that quickly got expensive. However, I quickly learned that I could easily make wheatgrass in the comfort of my indoor home without soil.  I’ve been growing wheatgrass weekly with success; therefore I decided to create this website to provide information on how to grow wheatgrass without mold in a tray using water in hopes of saving you money. This guide can even be utilized for those who want to plant wheatgrass for decoration purposes or even for their cats!

Step 1 : Source Seeds

To plant your wheatgrass, you will want to purchase non-GMO wheatgrass seeds, also known as wheatgrass berries, online. The seeds I buy and have had a lot of success with can be found here. ( Amazon link)

Step 2: Rinse Seeds

Begin by rinsing the seeds thoroughly. I use a mason jar along with a mesh as seen below.

Step 3 : Soak Seeds

You will want to fill enough water so that it is twice the height of the seeds. Then place a towel over the mason jar and place in a dark area for 12 hours.

Step 4: Drain Water and Place Back in the Dark

After 12 hours, you will notice the seeds have gotten slightly bigger and some may have started to sprout as seen below. At this point drain the water , place fresh water into the mason jar, and then place back in the dark area for another day to day and a half.

Step 5 : Remove from the Dark Area and Place into a Tray

At this point, you will see that the wheatgrass has sprouted. You can then place it onto the tray which has been filled with water on the bottom. The tray can be found here. ( Amazon link)

Step 7:  Spray the Water Bottle with Baking Soda Day and Night on the Wheatgrass to avoid Mold.  Be Sure to Place the Lid Back On

Step 8:  Keep the Tray Lid on until the Grass Begins to Outgrow the Area

Step 9:  Let the Grass Grow to this Height

Step 10:  Juice Wheatgrass with a Masticating Juicer

It’s important to be sure that your juicer can juice wheatgrass as many juicers can not. If it’s not a masticating juicer, there s  a good chance that the wheatgrass could clog it and cause it to break. You can use a powerful blender such as a Blendtec or a Vitamix, however, you will have to strain the solids at the end.

This juicer here ( Amazon link) is guaranteed to juice wheatgrass with ease.
